Harry Belafonte

Harry Belafonte was an American singer, actor and activist who helped bring Caribbean music to a worldwide audience. Known as the “King of Calypso,” he became a star with songs including “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)” and “Jamaica Farewell.” His warm voice and charismatic performances crossed folk, calypso and popular music, while his lifelong civil rights activism became equally important to his legacy.
