{comment: Verse 1}
[F]There is an old hotel way [C]back in the bush
[F7]Built in the railroad [Bb]days
[F]The old man enj[Bb]oyed some pints
[G7]When they'd stop along the [C]way
[F]Pack a shovel and a [C]jack my friend
[F7]Discover our heri[Bb]tage
[F]You just don't know how the [Bb]road will go
Or what you'll [C]find along the [F]way

{start_of_chorus}
There's a [Bb]beacon on the water
[F]Just showed up one day
[Dm]Seems we know how it got there
But [C]why well who's to [C7]say
Was a [F]fun way to spend some time
Perhaps it [Bb]wasn't very smart
If the [F]authorities [C]ask I'll say
That [Bb]its just modern [F]art
{end_of_chorus}

{comment: Verse 2}
[F]He and I should have been [C]rivals
[F7]But it was easier to be [Bb]friends
And when we [F]spotted that old [Bb]phone booth
We [G7]shared that same wry [C]grin
[F]It just stood there [C]empty
[F7]Behind the old [Bb]hotel
[F]No phone, no book, no [Bb]wires
[C]It was there to liber[F]ate

{start_of_chorus}

{comment: Verse 3}
[F]So we hatched a plan [C]grabbed the tools
With the [F7]prowess of a [Bb]cat
[F]Strained back and [Bb]buckled knees
We [G7]got it loaded in the [C]back
Till the [F]landlord says [C]otherwise
We'll [F7]put it on the [Bb]deck
[F]We'll shine it up and [Bb]scout around
For its [C]final resting [F]spot

{comment: Verse 4}
[F]A rock 'tween the point and the [C]island
[F7]That's where our time was [Bb]spent
[F]Bolts, bars, [Bb]boards, nails and
Seven [G7]pails of [C]cement
[F]Float it out [C]to the spot
On the [F7]gunwales of the [Bb]boat
De[F]termination and the [Bb]strength of youth
We [C]propped it on that [F]rock
